Workin for a Sustainable Business – grünBAG

When I started to consciously live a sustainable lifestyle, many ends connected for me. Focusing on sustainability in every aspect of my life meant putting myself first and determining my priorities.

I moved to Denmark for love, started another field of study which finally put me on a path I feel comfortable taking space in and I started a job at a company that couldn’t be more aligned with that path: grünBAG.

grünBAG is a sustainable company that produces beautiful bags and accessories out of scrap material from i.e. the tarpaulin production or sails.

I first found out about them via a school project that we did at uni and since I had already started my Zero Waste journey, I suggested a collaboration and applied for a job thereafter since, coincidentally, they were planning on expanding their market to Germany.

What is special about grünBAG is that they are re- and upcycling material that already exists and therefore prevent it from going to landfill. Since grünBAG uses very sturdy materials for their bags and accessories, the bags are meant to last a lifetime. For the rare case that they don’t, grünBAG offers to repair them, as they too support the longevity of products and encourage users to care well for their bags.

The company is structured in a tight-knit yet highly productive manner. While I am in the marketing department led by Sille, an absolute powerhouse and natural badass, the heart and soul really are the “redesigners” Anne and Christina, led by the founder of the company, Helen Leegard. With Jens Peter overlooking the andministrative chores, that would sum up all employees at grünBAG.

The reason I am writing this is that I think in order to understand how much work and dedication goes into a sustainable and value-driven company, you need to know about the people running the place.

As a sustainability blogger, I come across a lot of companies and it is sometimes really difficult to get the full picture of what a company is about and how they operate.

Working at grünBAG, I get to experience the culture of community, the commeradery and the positivity this business operates with and I am more than happy to spread the message about their product, which I 100% support.

If you have been looking for a new bag, are interested in supporting an awesome sustainable business or are looking for the perfect gift for the eco-conscious friend, mom or co-worker, I am treating you to a coupon code of 10% off of any grünBAG product which you can retrieve when entering this code: wasted2018 at the checkout.

All pictures have been taking by the one and only Petr Mrkvička 💛
