Sustainable Sex Toys

“To say ‘I love you’ one must first know how to say the ‘I.’ The meaning of the ‘I’ is an independent, self-sufficient entity that does not exist for the sake of any other person. A person who exists only for the sake of his loved one is not an independent entity, but a spiritual parasite. The love of a parasite is worth nothing.” – Ayn Rand

Let’s talk about self-pleasuring ( aka masturbation)

Besides it feeling really really good, masturbating actually has quite a few health benefits that shouldn’t go unnoticed.

  • It helps you catch those Z’s – masturbating lowers your blood pressure and releases endorphins that make it easier to relax and fall asleep.
  • The intensive muscle contraction of an orgasm can ease menstrual cramps.
  • According to the womens health network, female masturbation helps prevent cervical infections and relieves urinary tract infections.

On a personal note

It took me quite some time to really internalize that sex is not just about the physical act but also about the self, the way I feel and the desires I have. In most magazines, we can read pages over pages on how to pleasure the partner, how to be more alluring for them and how to define our sexuality within the partnership.

According to Psychology Today, only 38 percent of women in America masturbate. Why that is, I don’t know. But I do know that in my teenage years, masturbation was hardly ever talked about. And while it wasn’t a taboo, there still seems to be enough of a stigma on masturbation for women to be uncomfortable when exploring self-pleasuring and enjoying a fun healthy relationship to sex.

For me, hearing Esther Perel talk about the female sexuality was (th)eye opening and I have since learned that exploring your own body, what you like and what turns you on, is not only a crucial part of self-love and self-acceptance but also essential in a healthy partnership and a long lasting and happy sex life. Go figure.

Why invest in sustainable sex toys?

Most vibrators are made out of plastic and besides those being really hard to recycle, I like to stay away from anything that is known to leach toxins and that could be a potential carcinogen. Luckily there are many sustainable alternatives out there that don’t require the use of plastic and us exposing our bodies to unhealthy materials, but that are equally as fun.

1. The Curved Glass Wand

Glass is incredibly recyclable and an absolute toxic free option. If you want to be extra sustainable, opt for a wand that is clear glass instead of tinted, as tinted glass is harder to recycle.

2.The Vesper

A slim vibrator and a piece of jewelry in one. Whether you are one of those women who can truly own their sexuality and wear it as a necklace or if you prefer this vibrator for its fancy disguise, this vibrator is not only simplistically beautiful, it can be recharged from a USB port which eliminates the need for disposable batteries and it can switch between 4 different speeds. Talk about a statement necklace.

3.The Crave Bullet

If you are more into vibrators, this body-safe and durable stainless steel bullet might just be the thing for you. The Crave Bullet is waterproof and can easily be recharged from any USB port.

4. The Glass Ben-Wa Balls

Ben-Wa Balls are usually used to improved muscle control with regular use and are said to help achieve stronger, more frequent orgasms. These Ben- Wa Balls are handcrafted, made from borosilicate glass, which makes them a wonderful sustainable option for vaginal stimulation and exercise use.

5. The Indian Jade

I saved the best and most special one for last. This beautiful 100% pure hand-crafted crystal by Chakrubs is “created with the intention of opening oneself up to the healing properties crystals provide”. Besides looking incredibly beautiful, crystals are said to have energetic healing powers and with every kind of crystal, comes a different characteristic.
The reason I love Chakrubs so much is that they are not only about natural sexual pleasure and sex positivity but about connecting, awakening and embracing one’s sexual energy.

Because this topic is very dear to my heart, I wanted to make it extra special and spoil you guys a little by hosting a natural sex toy giveaway. For this, I teamed up with my favorite natural sex toy brand Chakrubs, who were kind enough to send me their absolutely divine Indian Jade from their Original Chakrub line.

The Indian Jade is made of 100% natural green Aventurine which, according to the Chakrub website,” is known as the “Stone of Opportunity” and thought to be the luckiest of all crystals. This precious stone is said to help release old patterns, habits and disappointments so new growth can take place. It brings optimism and a zest for life, allowing one to move forward with confidence and to embrace change. It enhances one’s creativity and motivation and encourages perseverance in maneuvering life’s obstacles.”

I mean who wouldn’t want to play with that 😉

The lucky winner will receive the Indian Jade, including a letter with tips on how to use the crystal, in discreet, plastic-free packaging.

It makes us all healthier as a society. When we repress who we are it’s very unhealthy. And I think if we embrace sexuality in a positive way, then we’re able to get the tools that we need to be able to have the sex that we want to have, and also to be safe in that sex. And also we can become healthier as a city in that sense, if we can protect ourselves from STIs and HIV.

Thank you! I learn a lot from your article. Recently I have found some vibs from the luvkis store. The vibs are made from 100% FDA approved body safe silicone, which is non-toxic to the human body. I would recommend it!
